Introduction to Safeguarding and Protecting Vulnerable Children, Young People
RIGHTS OF THE CHILD
Children and Young People have rights of their own independent of those of their parents, guardians and carers. These rights should be recognised and respected.
Where there is conflict of interest between parents and children and in all decisions relating to their future the child's interests must be given primary consideration.
This course provides learners with a basic awareness of current safeguarding practice and procedures. It is suitable for anyone who is working or volunteering with Children and Young People in any setting.

COURSE CONTENT
A range of subjects are covered including:

Current legislation and practice with regards to safeguarding

How to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect

Know what to do if a child or young person discloses to you and the procedure to follow this
-
The different services that are available to support children and young people following an allegation of abuse
COURSE DURATION
A minimum of 3 contact hours in the classroom and no previous experience is necessary.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Students must be a minimum of 16 years of age and a certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment.
It is recommended that you hold a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or equivalent to undertake this qualification.
CERTIFICATION
Assessment is on-going by the tutor and on successful completion a certificate can be issued.
This qualification does not expire, but refresher training and keeping up to date with changes to policies and procedures is vital to keep the qualification current.

NUMBERS
A maximum of 20 students are allowed and must be a minimum of 16 years of age and a certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment.
