Level 3 Paediatric First Aid (RQF) 

The objective of this qualification is to support learners wishing to become a paediatric first aider in the workplace with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. This qualification is intended for learners already working or preparing to work in industry.

 

Learners gaining this qualification will know that first aid is the responsibility of everyone involved in the working environment. Topics within this course are regarded by the Early Years Foundation Stage as being important to maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health of infants and children who are under the care of trained personnel.

 

This qualification meets the requirements for Paediatric First Aid outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage. The qualification is valid for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. In addition to this it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.

COURSE CONTENT

A range of subjects are covered including:

  • Role of the Paediatric First Aider

  • Primary Survey

  • Resuscitation (CPR incl. safe use of AED)

  • Wounds, bleeding and shock

  • Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis

  • Head, neck and back injuries

  • Seizure

  • Choking

  • Minor injuries

  • Recovery position

  • Fractures

  • Foreign bodies

  • Diabetic emergencies

  • Asthma

  • Meningitis 

  • Febrile convulsions

  • Extreme cold and heat

  • Electrical incidents

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Learners must be a minimum of 16 years of age to qualify.

It is also recommended that employers undertake an initial assessment to ensure learners, whatever their age, are physically capable of completing the practical assessment. (please see reasonable adjustments and special considerations for learners if required)


It is recommended that learners should hold a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or equivalent to undertake this qualification.

ASSESSMENT
​
1) Practical assessment

The practical assessment is completed throughout the course delivery. This ongoing assessment requires learners to demonstrate practical first aid skills.

​

2) Centre-marked multiple-choice theory assessment

Learners are required to pass a 33-question multiple-choice theory paper, completed at the end of the course when all knowledge has been covered.

​

The multiple-choice assessment is internally assessed by the assessor.  In order to pass, learners must achieve at least 70% (23/33).  Further oral questioning can be undertaken if learners do not achieve the required pass mark.

​​​NUMBERS

A maximum of 12 students are allowed and must be a minimum of 16 years of age with a certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment.

​

CERTIFICATION

The qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training.


The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.

This course is being delivered by blended learning £ 90.00 per learner.

We are also able to deliver this course at your premises for a minimum of 6 learners either by full face-to-face or blended learning, please contact us for a price.

BLENDED LEARNING

This qualification may be delivered by blended learning where the following principles are adhered to:

  • Theory completed online prior to the face-to-face element of the training.

  • The practical assessments will be delivered face-to-face (a minimum of two-thirds (12 hours) of the training time) this will include the final written theory assessment.
